Quick Ida Update

November 8, 2009

I’m in Lafayette enjoying a weekend of happy fun time! I don’t have much time, but figured I’d throw out an update on Ida. Ida is currently packing winds of 90 mph, and is forecast by the National Hurricane Center to make landfall near Mobile as a complex sort of hybrid low pressure with near hurricane force winds around Mobile Alabama. Some guidance brings this system in as far west as New Orleans, so hurricane watches are up all the way back to Grand Isle. This will not be a typical system where the wind will be confined near the center. In fact, some very strong wind will be evident on the northwest side of this system. I’m not worried about anything more than rain and a breeze up to 20-25 mph in Central Louisiana. That being said, if you are heading to New Orleans over the next few days, you’ll want to check ahead. This will be an interesting system to watch through the middle of the week. Landfall should happen around Tuesday morning. for those keeping score.

Oh, and Go Saints.
