Ida, And What Comes Before Her

November 5, 2009

Ida is officially a hurricane!  Right now Ida is spinning along the coast of Nicaragua, and should move inland very soon.  It appears a good part of Ida will stay offshore for the next 6-12 hours, but some weakening due to land interaction is forecast.  Eventually Ida will move into the southern Gulf of Mexico, but at what state is fairly uncertain.  Models run the gamut from dissipation to strong hurricane.  Regardless of what happens, I don’t think we’ll have to deal directly with Ida.  While a couple of models try to swing it close enough to at least concern me, it just doesn’t seem plausible with the time of year, and upper air pattern we will see early next week.  We do have some big changes heading this way with another blob of moisture in the Gulf ready to lift north and return us to our wet ways.

Thursday:  Mostly sunny and quite nice.  Highs will be in the middle 70s with easterly wind around 5-10 mph.

Thursday Night:  Mostly clear and cool.  Lows will be in the middle to upper 40s.

Friday:  Mostly sunny with highs in the middle 70s.

Friday Night:  Mostly clear with more of the same temperature-wise.  Lows will be in the middle to upper 40s.

Saturday:  Mostly sunny with highs in the middle to upper 70s.

Sunday through Wednesday:  Wet weather returns!  Rain chances will increase to 40% late Sunday, and will be around 70% for Monday.  I’ll bring chances down to 40% for Tuesday and take them out for Wednesday.  Highs will be in the lower to middle 70s Sunday, and the upper 60s Monday and Tuesday.  We should rebound into the lower 70s on Wednesday.  Lows will be in the 50s throughout, but could near 60 on Monday and Tuesday morning.  The rain event from late Sunday through Tuesday could bring 1-2 inches of rain to most of the area.  At least we’ve seen some dry time the last few days!
