Your Very Wet Forecast Is Back

September 9, 2009

There’s nothing quite like camping in the rain to make you appreciate sitting in your house listening to the rain. I spent a good percentage of my camping trip holding my tent down from the outside to keep it from dismantling under the weight of 30-40 mph wind and heavy rain. Who am I kidding? I loved it. We had a blast, albeit a very wet blast. If you’re looking to have a party in torrential downpours, you’re going to love this forecast.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance for thunderstorms. Highs will be near 90 with southeasterly wind around 5-10 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy with a 30% chance for showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be near 70.

Thursday: Partly cloudy with a 40% chance for thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance for a thunderstorm. Lows will be in the lower 70s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a 60% chance for thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

Saturday through Monday: Now it gets interesting. I’ll discuss this a bit further below. Heavy rain will be a threat from Saturday through Monday. I’ll put chances around 70% both Saturday and Sunday and back them down to around 50% for Monday. Highs will generally be in the middle to upper 80s with plenty of humidity. Lows will be in the low to middle 70s.

Special Explanation Time: This weekend’s forecast is highly dependant on a surface low pressure developing over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. There is at least a small chance this system will become something tropical or sub-tropical. Regardless of if it develops or not it will bring us lots of rain, some gusty wind, and some coastal flooding and high seas if you are heading down to the coast. Translated……. Not a good weekend to do any offshore boating. At this point I think we’re going to see several significant disturbances from Friday through Monday and some very heavy rain might start to pile up. Right now guidance keeps the very heaviest rain just to our south, but several inches of rain from Friday through Monday seems likely. I’ll keep you posted!
