A Forecast and the Hopefully Friendly Tropics

August 17, 2009

The tropics are looking better than I could have imagined a couple of days ago.  Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall near Fort Walton Beach and is now weakening over the Florida panhandle.   Claudette will bring some heavy rain over Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, but shouldn’t pose any huge problems.

Ana is now a depression as well and may have degenerated once again into a tropical wave.  There are some more storms forming near the center, but a trip over Hispaniola will likely finish Ana off later today.

Bill is now a hurricane and looks like it’s on the way to becoming a large and major hurricane.  Bill is also now forecast to hook away from the United States, and really only threaten Bermuda at this point.

So with three storms potentially threatening the U.S coast just a couple of days ago, it’s nice for a change to see things trend this way.  Claudette arrived with little fanfare, Bill should miss us, and Ana just doesn’t seem to have the environement to make it.

Now for your forecast……..

Thursday through Sunday:  It looks like a 30-40% chance for rain will stick around through Saturday.  Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s with lows in the lower to middle 70s.  Sunday will bring a drying trend behind a strong early season cold front.  Lows will be in the upper 60s after this passes, with a less humid high in the low to mid 90s on Sunday.
